Reverend Cory Sparks, Ph.D.
Cory received his call to ministry on top of an abandoned porno theater in Matamoros, Mexico. It was being turned into a medical clinic and church. Cory left Mexico with a sense that ministries should bring healing to the whole person—body and soul. Now Cory is thrilled to be part of a St. Mark’s community that has had that same vision for more than a century.
In addition to pastoring St. Mark’s, Cory directs the Institute for Nonprofit Excellence of the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations. In that role he strengthens nonprofits to strengthen the state. His work includes board development, fund development planning, and strategic planning.
He serves as President of the Greater New Orleans Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals; Chair of the Commission on Stewardship of the Environment of the Louisiana Interchurch Conference; and Vice-President of Christian Renewal New Orleans, a group that networks local churches and faith-based organizations
He and his wife, Melissa, have been married for 19 years. They have two daughters – Beatrix, age 14, and Ella, age 10.
Rev. Dr. Sparks holds an A.B. from Columbia University; an M.Div. from Southern Methodist University; and a Doctorate in American History from Louisiana State University. During seminary he was a Ministry Fellow of the Fund for Theological Education (now the Fund for Theological Exploration).
