I never cease to be in awe of God’s abiding presence so keenly felt week in and week out at St. Mark’s. During the year 2010, 16 new members have been added to the roll – some from the homeless population who have found a sanctuary among us. St. Mark’s inclusivity of diversity includes two pre-school children, professors, middle agers, retirees, Caucasian, Hispanic, African American, the homeless and gays. When I look out each Sunday morning on our congregation, I see a rainbow representing the promise of hope for all God’s children and I am deeply humbled and grateful to serve as pastor and fellow sojourner as we together proclaim the mystery of faith.
Not only has our membership grown to 100 (from 18 in 2005) our Partners in Ministry have also grown in number. The meal ministry is an important part of our mission, and each week we serve 100 to 150 hungry guests. The support from so many – both financial and hands-on service – underscores the important role of the body of Christ for St. Mark’s ministry to remain vibrant. Thanks be to God!
